Joan Baez Returns to Esalen for 50th Anniversary Celebration

Joan Baez will forever be ingrained in the fabric of Monterey County. She was just about to become one of the world's most famous folk musicians when she came to live in the Carmel Highlands in 1961—she later lived in Carmel Valley.

Baez played the sixth annual Big Sur Folk Festival—along with John Sebastian, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Joni Mitchell, and the Combs Sisters—in 1969 on the lawns of Esalen. She also lived, taught and performed numerous other times at Esalen throughout the 60s.

Since her days in Monterey County, Baez has returned: Back in 2009, she sold out the Golden State Theatre. And on Oct. 3 at 2pm, the folk goddess will return to Esalen to celebrate its 50th Anniversary with her timeless and influential classics. Tickets on sale now.

Don't worry. There will be plenty of time after the music to get naked and enjoy those world-famous hot springs.
