Hilton Garden Inn Makes Good with Union, Employees
April 7, 2011
The Local 483 Union—formerly the Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees Union—and the Hilton Garden Inn Monterey have finally come to a mutual agreement and will move forward with a reciprocal labor-management plan with new owners of the hotel, RB Monterey.
In Nov. 2009 the Hilton and Monterey Hyatt Regency came under fire after laying-off long-time employees and allegedly filling their positions with cheap labor. Marches and vigils were held by layed-off workers of big hotel chains nationwide with the help of Local 483, many demanding to be re-hired.
“We genuinely appreciate the time and effort that the Union has put into resolving this dispute,”, “we are confident that we can continue with our Hotel’s business goals and remain…a stable and growing part of the Monterey Bay hospitality industry,” says Todd Walter, a representative of RB Monterey’s ownership group.
The Union’s Secretary-Treasurer Leonard O’Neill says the union has “always have been committed to representing our members by providing them not only with the best wages and benefits in the Monterey Bay area hospitality industry, but also by helping the businesses at which they work remain as healthy and growing members of our community.”
