Monterey Salon Owner’s Talent Tapped for New York Fashion Week
February 7, 2011
He’s packing his scissors and headed for the bright lights and big city: Monterey-based hair stylist and Oya Salon owner Brian Bode has been selected to coiff the models wearing the designs of three high-profile designers at this year’s New York Fashion Week beginning Feb. 10. Bode will have to execute up to 50 different “looks” in under two hours at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park for the runway shows of designers Alice + Olivia, threeASFOUR and Pamela Love.
Bode was raised in and around the hair design industry in large part due to his aunt, who founded Sebastian Professional Products. Bode has made a solid name for himself as a cutting-edge hairdresser who recently began collaboration with stylist and hair product creator Nick Arrojo from TLC’s “What Not to Wear”.
Bode has experience working with upper-echelon fashion but admits, “I’ve never really done hair under the tent.” The “tent” being a bucolic label for one of the glitziest and most celebrated fashion shows on the planet.
Bode hopes his debut at this year’s New York Fashion Week will help him enrich the experience for students at Oya’s Hair Design University.
“Keeping myself with the best in the industry and bringing that experience back to my salon is a huge asset to my students,” Bode said.
