Gonzales City Councilman Matt Gourley Resigns

After 13 years on the Gonzales city council, Matt Gourley decided to throw in the towel Monday. Gourley cited lack of opposition last November as the main reason he stayed on up to this point.

“There was three positions open and we didn’t have any challengers,” Gourley explains, “that was the first time in my life there was no challengers and no one disputing anything.”

Gourley was elected to the council in 1998 and appointed mayor in 2000 where he served three terms. The Gonzales Chamber of Commerce named Gourley Citizen of the Year in 2009. With the completion of an 86-acre industrial park, recent updates to youth projects in the city and a $1.3 million reserve in the city coffers, Gourley says he is leaving the city “in really good shape”.

Spending more time with his children and pursuing business opportunities are in his agenda going forward.
