New Salinas Councilman Steve McShane outlines goals for his term

Just a few hours before the first of a series three meetings to share his objectives for governing, McShane had baked Ghiradelli chocolate chip cookies for attendees, and drafted a list of his highest priorities:

•Work to develop additional neighborhood associations

•Create a more business-friendly city

•Do more with less—seek private support and deliver services more efficiently as recommended by the city’s Blue Ribbon Commission and consultant Les White.

While McShane’s list is light on specifics, and the city is even shorter on cash, McShane points to at least one improvement citizens can take on themselves: removing an increasing amount of graffiti the councilman says is showing up in his district.

“Salinas is in desperate need of volunteerism and stewardship…my call to action is to get more people engaged in their city,” McShane says.

Mayor Dennis Donohue, City Manager Artie Fields, an SPD police commander were expected to attend.
