Planning Commision says no to shopping at Corral De Tierra
January 13, 2011
In a 5-5 vote on Wednesday, the Monterey County Planning Commission rejected a proposal for a 127,000-square-foot retail center on Corral de Tierra Road at Highway 68.
The proposal, submitted by Corral de Tierra-based Omni Resources, Ltd., includes a grocery store, 10 retail buildings, one office building, and 508 parking spaces. Bill and Nancy Phelps originally purchased the 11-acre tract in 1970, and the family formed Omni Resources to manage the project.
Eric Phelps of Omni Resources could not be reached for comment after the Commission's vote, but he plans to appeal the decision, which means the Board of Supervisors will have the final say.
