MIIS Professor Elected to Amnesty International Board

Longtime human rights advocate and Monterey Institute of International Studies Professor Jan Knippers Black has been elected by members of Amnesty International USA to a three-year term on the Amnesty board.

Black’s organization of a human rights conference at MIIS in May and her work as a Peace Corps volunteer in Chile are just a few examples of a career dedicated to advocating for human rights nationwide.

“Amnesty International is a flagship of human rights protectors,” Black says, “there is no organization I would be prouder to serve.”

Black currently teaches international policy studies with an emphasis on human rights in Latin America and women’s rights. MIIS President Sunder Ramaswamy expressed his pride and recognized her as a “steadfast and passionate” advocate for international human rights.
