Mucky Duck's Alcohol License Suspended by State

Popular Downtown Monterey pub the Mucky Duck is in murky waters, according to an email sent to the Weekly by City Council member Nancy Selfridge. The state of California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (aka ABC) suspended the Mucky Duck's liquor license today, and won't lift the ban on alcoholic beverages until June 12, said a Salinas-based ABC rep via email.

The specific reason(s) for the suspension aren't clear (neither the ABC nor the Mucky Duck returned the Weekly's calls), but the beleaguered bar has been struggling to shake off its sketchy reputation, which was cemented by the New Year's shooting on the premises by a pair of rowdy patrons.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages will still be on the menu at the Mucky Duck, but given its identity as a prominent Alvarado Street watering hole, it's unlikely that the bar-without-a-bar can't stay in the black on french fries alone.
