Salinas City Manager Resigns

Salinas City Manager Artie Fields resigned this morning and will take the same position in the Southern California city of Inglewood.

His final day as Salinas city manager will be June 30. He starts his new job on July 14.

“I’m going back to Southern California where I’m originally from, and it’s an opportunity to do what I enjoy doing, and to do that close to family and friends is a great opportunity,” Fields says. “It’s a city similar to Salinas in terms of diversity and challenges and opportunities, and I think it will be a good career move.”

The resignation was announced to top city staffers at 8:30am. The fact that Fields was looking to move on, though, was one of the worst kept secrets at City Hall. Fields also was a top finalist for the city manager’s position in Mountain View, but he says going to Inglewood is going home.
