Botulism From Black Bean Tortillas Prompts Recall
November 14, 2011
The manufacturer of Gentes Foods Gordita Black Bean Tortillas has issued a recall on selected variations of the product due to potential Clostridium botulinum contamination.
Several Safeway and Pak N Save stores in Central California, including the Safeway on 1546 N. Main in Salinas are known to have received the tainted tortillas.
United Natural Foods is recalling all products stamped with a date reading "11 6 11" in the Safeway store in Salinas and Watsonville as well as Pak N Save stores in South San Francisco and Emeryville.
Clostridium botulinum can cause botulism, a potentially life-threatening bacterial disease. If you or someone you know consumed the aforementioned foodstuff and are exhibiting symptoms including dizziness, difficulty breathing and constipation seek medical attention immediately.
