Hartnell College President Phoebe Helm to Retire in June

Hartnell College President Phoebe Helm will retire at the end of the current school year, and the Board of Trustees is launching a national search for her replacement, according to a release sent out by the college late Tuesday.

In a letter addressed to Hartnell Board President Erica Padilla-Chavez, Helm stated her desire to retire by June 30, 2012, but noted she'd be willing to stay on longer if needed to help ease the transition to a new president. “I care too much for the College, the Valley it serves, and the work of the Board, to leave them in a bind,” she said in the letter.

Helm arrived at Hartnell in 2007 as its interim president, and became the permanent president the following year.
