Axe-(Handle-)Wielding Parent Assaults Football Coach at Monterey High

Today's news of the weird comes to us courtesy of Leslie Sonne at the Monterey Police Department: Officers were dispatched to Monterey High School's football field yesterday just after 1pm to arrest an angry, allegedly axe-handle-wielding parent who threatened and then struck a football coach several times with a taped axe handle.

Raynald Adams, a 40-year-old male from Seaside, was taken into custody for assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a school official, possession of a dangerous weapon, being on school grounds without registering and possessing a weapon on school grounds. He was booked at the Monterey County Jail.

The coach did not need medical treatment. No word yet on what he did, if anything, to provoke an attack by Adams.
