Salinas High Choir Teacher Arrested on Charges of Secretly Taping Teenage Girls

A choir teacher at Salinas High school has been arrested on charges relating to child pornography.

Aldrin Jayson Nicolas, 26, was arrested by the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Department after officers found a “pen” camera Nicolas had allegedly placed in a bathroom of the Pajaro Dunes hotel between March 16-18, 2012. According to sheriff’s spokeswoman April Skalland, Nicolas was chaperoning a field trip for the Vivace Youth Group in San Jose, and hid the camera to capture video of teenage girls undressing.

Several of the girls recognized the pen as a camera and told counselors, who then reported the incident to the sheriff’s department. After an investigation, Nicolas was asked to come to the sheriff’s office and was arrested on April 10.

Nicolas is being charged with production of child pornography, eavesdropping, disorderly conduct with a camcorder, molestation and using a minor for obscene material.

Skalland believes Nicolas had been acting independently. Two search warrants were issued for Nicolas’ residences in Salinas and Hayward where deputies found several videos shot on the pen camera.

Vivace Youth Group has suspended Nicolas from his employment and Salinas High School has placed him on administrative leave. Nicolas is being held in the Santa Cruz County Jail.

This is the second time in less than a month a Salinas High staff member has been arrested on allegations relating to child pornography.
