Rock Slide in Big Sur Closes Highway 1

On December 23, a 60-foot landslide blocked through-traffic on Highway 1 seven miles south of Big Sur.
Caltrans closed the road between where the slide occurred—just below Deetjen’s Inn at mile-marker 42—and south at mile-marker 23 near the town of Lucia.
From a press release from the Coastal Property Owners Association, Caltrans says no official date of reopening the highway, but they estimate the highway will be open to traffic by the end of the week.
