CASA of Monterey County Gets New Name, Logo

After a year of planning, Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, is unveiling a new name, logo and marketing plan—including a new website and brochure—the agency hopes will bring more recognition and in turn, more volunteers to the children that need them.
The new name, Voices for Children, “signifies the power of advocacy for an abused or neglected child,” says Siobhan Greene, executive director of CASA Monterey County. “We want to use our voice for the child to ensure they receive the best care possible…the whole point [of the new name] was to be clearer when recruiting volunteers.”
CASA is a national network of volunteer training centers with the singular purpose of providing a voice to neglected and/or abused children after placement in foster care.
Though a majority of counties still rely on the original CASA title, places like San Diego, Marin and Placer counties have adopted titles that are more easily identified as places dedicated to children.
“[The board] determined that in our community, where the word CASA has a different meaning to many people, and is used in multiple local business names, we needed to have a name that would express the mission of our program and give people a more immediate image of what we do,” says Board President Pete St. Geme.
Green assures that no change in services will take place and hopes the new name and straightforward approach will help recruit more volunteers. And, although the name of the county organization will change, volunteers will still be known as CASAs.
There are currently 60 children on the waiting list for a CASA of their own and Green says she hopes this shift in marketing and strategy will bridge the gap.
