Board of Ed Renews Home School Charter

The Monterey County Board of Education unanimously approved a five-year renewal on a charter for home schools on April 18.

Home schooling has operated through the county since 1987, and was first chartered in 2000. The school serves K-12 students in a home setting with independent study.

“We thank the board for renewing our charter petition,” Principal Amy Ish said in a statement. “We look forward to many more years operating and will continue to provide a quality education program for our students.”

Monterey County Home Charter School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, as well as meeting renewal criteria set forth by the California Department of Education.

“Parents and students are to be commended for their support of this unique and valuable educational option,” Superintendent Nancy Kotowski said in a statement. "[Home school] administration, staff and teachers are dedicated to providing educational excellence and support for these students and families
