Monterey Wine Services' Owner Charged With 11 Counts of Federal Tax Evasion

The owner and operator of Monterey Wine Services, Brenda Jo Kibbee, was arrested Wednesday morning and arraigned in federal court on 11 counts of failure to pay excise taxes on wine she sold or consumed between Aug. 29, 2008 and Jan. 14, 2009.
Kibbee is accused of intentionally failing to pay taxes totalling $581,177 and could face up to five years in prison and a fine of over $1 million.
The prosecution is a result of an investigation on Kibbee by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and the Internal Revenue Service.
