One Dead After Double Shooting on Friday Night

A 20-year-old man became Seaside’s second homicide victim of 2012 after he was shot once on Friday night.

At 11:47pm, Seaside Police and Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of shots fired at the corner of Olympia and San Lucas avenues. Witnesses also reported a possible shooting victim; officers found the man on the 1600 block of San Lucas street. Medical personnel pronounced him dead on the scene.

According to police, the victim is a known gang member.

About two hours earlier, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 5100 block of Coe Avenue.

Several men were standing outside when a dark-colored car drove by and someone in the car fired several times at the group. No one was hit, but gunfire did strike the residence.

This is the second shooting in one week on the 5100 block of Coe Avenue. Just before 9pm on Oct. 6, police responded to reports of multiple gunshots near 5100 Coe Ave. The suspect, a Seaside resident, starting shooting at a 19-year-old man and his family as they stood outside their home. The man was struck in the leg and the family returned fire in self-defense, hitting the suspect multiple times.
