Gang Members Arrested in Marina Shooting; Retaliation for Seaside Homicide

Two men described by police as known gang members have been charged with attempted murder for the August 23 shooting of a man escorting his pregnant wife to an appointment at the Monterey Health Clinic in Marina.
Monterey resident Jaime Gonzalez, 19, and 18-year-old Ramon Rosales of Seaside were arrested Sept. 25 by Marina police. Rosales was arrested after he was pulled over near Davis road in Salinas, and Gonzalez was arrested at the Marina Police Department after he was asked to come in for questioning.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was shot while walking his wife back to the car after her medical appointment. He has since recovered from his injuries.
Marina police Chief Eddie Rodriguez (pictured above at a press conference) believes the 18-year-old victim was targeted as a member of a rival gang and was retaliation for the July 22 Seaside shooting death of Gonzalez’s 18-year-old brother, Jorge. Rodriguez declined to comment on the affiliation of the gang members.
Along with attempted murder, both Gonzalez and Rosales are charged with assault with a firearm, conspiracy, gang conspiracy and gang enhancements. They were booked in Monterey County Jail on Sept. 25 and their bail is set at $1.4 million each.
