19-Year-Old Shot by Beach in Monterey

A 19-year-old man was shot multiple times in Monterey late last night, according to police.
The Monterey Police Department believes the shooting happened near Beach Way and Tide Avenue at around 11:30pm. The spot is close to the beach and the Naval Postgraduate School.
The man was brought to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula by a friend, and transported by air ambulance to the San Jose Regional Hospital, police say.
Police are looking at inconsistencies in the information gathered, like the motive of the shooting, says police Lt. Leslie Sonné. The investigation is continuing,
“These kinds of shootings are not common in our city,” she says, adding, “At this point we don’t necessarily think this was a random act.”
The victim has gang ties from Salinas, police say.
There is no suspect information available now. The victim is in stable condition.
