Police To Hold Anonymous Gun Buyback in April
February 21, 2013
Several Monterey Peninsula law enforcement agencies are holding an anonymous gun buyback event in April.
"Removing guns and accessibility of available guns that could be used in the commission of a crime is important for everyone's safety," says a statement from the Seaside Police Department.
Turned over guns will fetch $100, though police reserve the right to limit the cash payment someone can receive. Guns must be transported in the trunk of a vehicle and unloaded.
Last week the Seaside Police Department started sending out donation requests to businesses in several Monterey County cities, says Kathryn Pernet, senior administrative assistant at the Seaside department. It’s collected about $5,000 so far, enough for 50 guns.
“Any kind of gun will be accepted, no questions asked,” says Pernet. “The more, the better.”
The event is Saturday, April 6 from 9am to 5pm at Roberts Lake, at the corner of Roberts Avenue & Canyon Del Rey in Seaside.
For more information contact Pernet at 899-6753.
