Cal Am to Carmel: Don't Drink the Water
January 2, 2013
UPDATE Friday Jan. 4: Cal Am has lifted the boil-water advisory, saying all tap water in the Carmel service area is now safe to drink.
--
On Tuesday afternoon, while New Year's revelers nursed their headaches, some 200 Carmel area households got a headache of their own.
Two water main breaks—one at Aguajito Road and Highway 1, the other at San Luis Avenue—disrupted service to several hundred service connections in the Carmel area, according to a Jan. 1 press release from California American Water.
As Cal Am works on repairs, it's asking affected customers to boil their water for all potable uses such as drinking, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food. Bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute and let it cool before using it.
