Salinas Records First Two Homicides of 2013

Seven days into the new year and Salinas has been hit with two shooting homicides.

Just after 9 p.m. on Monday evening, police officers responded to multiple calls of gunshots near 18 North Hebbron St. On arrival, they found an unconscious male victim who was not breathing and suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors reported seeing a male in a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt running from the area. It is unknown if the shooting was gang-related.

On Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., residents in the apartment complex at 914 Acosta Plaza reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area. Police arrived and found Manuel Leon, 47, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Salinas police say he does not have any gang affiliation they are aware of.

Police say residents reported seeing a late-teens male running from the area. He was light-skinned and wearing blue jeans, a red beanie and a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.
