PHOTOS: 2011 Monterey Jazz Festival

Sonny Rollins finished off the 2011 Monterey Jazz Festival. He also played during the very first jazz festival in 1958.

A colleague of Rollins, Miles Davis, was also represented at the annual festival this year when an orchestra directed by Vince Mendoza performed Davis' classic jazz albums "Porgy and Bess" and "Sketches of Spain" in their entirety.

A local connection was made when native Erik Telford performed with his collective on the Garden Stage on Friday evening. Telford took the classic jazz methodology of extended solos and added modern technology, like effects on typically straight forward acoustic instruments.
