Sixth Avenue, Carmel
This gallery, opened in 1975 by Margaret Weston, is heir to the county’s fine art photography tradition. It’s kept that charge by exhibiting prints from the best practitioners in three distinct genres: from the 19th century, Eadweard Muybridge, Julia Margaret Cameron, Frank Meadow Sutcliffe; from the 20th century, Ansel Adams, Edward and Cole Weston, Diane Arbus, Marion Post Wolcott; and contemporary artists Rod Dresser, Linda Broadfoot and Chip Hooper. It’s a who’s-who of the best capturers of the more contemplative angles of life. Look for Authors & Artists, an exhibition of Yousuf Karsh, running March 23-May 12.
