Pacific Repertory Theater

Monte Verde Street, Carmel

(831) 622-0100, www.PacRep.org

PacRep comprises two theaters. The bigger of the two is the renovated Golden Bough Playhouse, home to big musicals like The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and their annual Buddy Holly number, big-name plays like A Streetcar Named Desire and Julius Caesar. Thanks to a large new projection screen and technology upgrades, Golden Bough also doubles as a film screening venue for satellite broadcast Specticast Films. Adjoining that theater is the smaller theater-in-the-round Circle Theatre, where more daring or adult stuff shows, like An IliadGod of Carnage or A Tuna Christmas. But let’s not forget that the company also travels each season a few blocks to produce shows at the Outdoor Forest Theatre, like last season’s Peter Pan, and train upcoming child thespians in their School of Dramatic Arts program. PacRep has been doing theater at a consistently high level since the 1980s. And is getting better with every year.
