25 Pilot Road, Carmel Valley
1380 River Road, Salinas
Forget about wine for a moment, and think about some of the best spots around town to take a selfie: Sunset viewpoints might come to mind, but there is some equally impressive scenery inside Talbott’s newest tasting room in Carmel Valley. This 2,800-square-foot expanse features a redwood bar and 15 vintage motorcycles on display. Before he founded the 100-percent estate-grown winery in 1982, Robb Talbott restored antique cars and raced motorcycles. Now, Talbott has cultivated a tasting experience as sophisticated as his wines (and his motorcycles). And of course the original River Road location – on site where all the winemaking magic happens – is where winemaker Dan Karlsen is at work and generally on hand to answer questions for visitors more interested in wine than bikes. Either way, you’re going to be sampling some of the region’s finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
