13 miles south of Carmel, Highway 1, Big Sur
If a crime fighter were to fly under a bridge on the way to his/her lair, it’d be Bixby. Millions of cars screech to a halt at this 84-year-old concrete icon to not only take the ubiquitous selfie with its arch below and sweeping ocean views, but to marvel at the architectural beauty spanning the 700-foot width of Bixby Creek Canyon. It’s so popular with today’s Snapchatters, Instagrammers and road-tripping history buffs, it could also be voted Best Place for a Traffic Jam on Highway 1. Such is life 279 feet above a private beach, on the cusp of a seemingly infinite Pacific.
