Center for Photographic Art

San Carlos and Ninth, Carmel (831) 625-5181, photography.org

The focus of this sleek and compact gallery space is West Coast fine art photography, but in the periphery are educational lectures and workshops, fun art receptions, and gatherings of creative people. It was founded by friends Ansel Adams, Cole Weston and Wynn Bullock in 1967. They moved operations to San Francisco in 1987, but Executive Director Brian Taylor says that the space continues to merge camaraderie and craft in engaging exhibitions and events. And membership unlocks even more goodies, including critiques, film screenings and print exchanges.
