A disturbance call in Moss Landing on Wednesday, Feb. 15, turned into murder, followed by a standoff between Monterey County Sheriff's Deputies and an armed homicide suspect who was later arrested, the agency announced today.
Deputies responding to the 10:11am disturbance call on Trafton Road found a dead man with what appeared to be blunt force trauma to his head, says Cmdr. John Thornburg.
Just under three hours later a male suspect was located by deputies and California Highway Patrol officers inside a nearby home. The man barricaded himself inside and was armed, the report states.
Deputies were able to talk to the suspect and convince him to surrender; the man came outside and was arrested without injury, according to deputies.
The suspect is identified as Moss Landing resident Jose de Jesus Estrada, 39, Thornburg says.
The victim, age 40, has not been identified pending notification of family. An official cause of death will be released after an autopsy.
