Some of us got goosebumps when we first heard Chris Isaak sing “Wicked Game.” Not many singers can pull off that song with the same effect, but singer and guitar player Brianna Lee of the group B & The Hive, is able to, so much so, she and the band opened for Isaak in a sold out show in San Diego on Aug. 28. Lee’s rich vocals have been called dreamy and sultry. The indie band that plays across genres started in the Bay Area in 2011 as Girls + Boys, and soon took on the monniker B & The Hive. They’ve been touring ever since, opening for such big names as the Goo Goo Dolls, Alanis Morrisette and Elvis Costello. Joining Lee is co-songwriter and producer Josh Barrett on bass, Hannah Joy-Brooke on keys and backing vocals, Hayden Gardner on drums, and Eric Novak on lead guitar. Appearing on the same ticket is the band SIS, which played the The Lab at the Barnyard this summer, and Abe Hollow, the songwriting project of Oakland-based musician Adam Hirsch. [PM]
