Maybe it's a sign of just how far we've come that there's no longer a gay bar on the Monterey Peninsula or in Salinas. But that doesn't mean there isn't a need for a permanent community space for queer life and events and gatherings, and that's exactly why Gary Paul Baker is launching A Gay Affair. From 4-8pm, meet new people, browse (and buy) art by 10 local artists, talk politics and learn about initiatives advancing equity and justice—an, of course, eat and drink. Three people will receive awards for their leadership representing the queer community (artist Paul Richmond, Monterey City Councilmember Tyller Williamson and therapist/adviser/cofounder of Monterey Peninsula Pride Stephen Braveman). It's all meant to be a fun, social space for queer folks and allies. Wear glitter or rainbow colors (or whatever makes you happy) and share the love. [SR]
