How many excuses do you need to down massive mugs of beer? Would an oom-pah band do it for you? A platter of brats hot off the grill? Lederhosen? How about if someone brought all of that together and called it Oktoberfest? The ninth annual Carmel version of Germany's big tent party has all of that and more. There's beer from Bavaria (authenticity) a band from San Francisco (not as authentic, but they sound close enough), a beer stein holding contest (for those waiting for the next round?) and a Miss Oktoberfest contest (for those who miss those St. Pauli Girl posters). And there's a whole lot of fun. The event is dog friendly and kids under 12 get in free because, well, someone has to be sober enough to tell the parents when to stop yodeling. All of this takes place outside of Lugano Swiss Bistro. [DF]
