It's been a particularly devastating year for wildfires, not just in Monterey County, but across the West, destroying thousands of homes in California. Volunteer and professional firefighters from Cal Fire, the Big Sur Fire Brigade and Cachagua Fire talk about what it means to live in wildlands with the persistent risk of wildfires. Speakers include Big Sur Fire Brigade Chief Martha Karstens, whose own home was destroyed in the Pfeiffer Fire last year. Meet the panelists during a social hour from 6-6:30pm; the discussion starts at 6:30. [SR]
