Want in on a secret? We'll let you know, but then the feds will do everything in their power to hush you up before the evil empire gets to you and...OK, so the Point Sur Naval Facility is no longer top secret. But during the Cold War, the base was the center for clandestine operations, tracking Soviet subs and other undercover work. Once the Cold War ended and the Russians became our friends—our really close, "let me help you with that election" friends, the base shuttered. It is the only such facility still standing on the West Coast (so far as we know). And now you get to see it up close and hear all about it from docents. Walking tours are every Saturday and Sunday. The base is just south of the Point Sur Lightstation. And it's no longer hush-hush, so there will be signs.
