'Tis the season for Nutcracker performances—and, in the holiday spirit, to set aside the bitter divisiveness of our days. Beyond the professionalism of the Moscow Ballet's graceful and athletic dancers on stage, there are local dance students appearing in roles as small mice, party-going children and snow maidens. They all come together on stage for a timeless story, exceptional ballet skills, and Tchaikovsky songs that have likely been lodged in your memory since childhood. There's magic here—both in terms of the story itself, which includes a nutcracker coming to life and doing battle with an army of gigantic mice, among other dreamlike scenes—and the partnership of performers from different age groups, experience levels and cultural backgrounds to make this masterpiece happen. Shows are at 3pm and 7pm. [SR]
