As a humanitarian folk musician, Alisa Fineman uses her singing/songwriting as a means to delve inside and explore her own Jewish background. Fineman sings in Hebrew, Ladino and English. In addition to being a respected folk singer on the Peninsula, Fineman is also a cantorial soloist at Congregation Beth Israel in Carmel and hosts a radio show on KAZU in Pacific Grove that features songwriters from all over the country. She was named Best Folk Singer in the Monterey County Weekly Best Of reader's poll four straight years in the early 1990s and in 1991, she won top honors at the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk Showcase for her songs "One Lone Bird" and "I Could Not Ask For More." Fineman has four records: Cup of Kindness (1988), Better With Time (1993) and Closing the Distance: Poems, Prayers and Love Songs.
