Charles Lloyd

Charles Lloyd performing at the 2014 Monterey Jazz Festival.

Originally from Memphis, saxophonist and flutist Charles Lloyd is one of Monterey County's most famous jazz artists. His 1966 Atlantic Records recording Forest Flower: Live in Monterey was a huge commercial success and the largest selling jazz recording of that time. The band was recorded live at the Monterey Jazz Festival and featured pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Cecil McBee and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Lloyd's experimental freeform style led him to tour with the Beach Boys in the 1970s.
