After one year of on-and-off recording at Castroville’s Monterey Bay Recording Studio, the Salinas blues rock quartet Westside Willie is getting ready to release its debut album Air Guitar this summer. The band’s lead singer, guitarist and harmonica player, Tony Worley, says the CD’s title track was inspired by one of the band’s frequent performances at the Moss Landing Inn.
“‘Air Guitar’ is a song I wrote in a club about a girl playing air guitar,” he says. “It’s a rocking song.”
Apparently, girls in bars closing their eyes and pretending to play guitar solos is not the only thing that inspires Worley. The musician, who also likes to cover Tommy Castro and The Black Crowes with his four-piece group, has a song titled “Laura Della” on the CD. Worley says it’s a jump blues song for his wife.
WEST SIDE WILLIE plays the Moss Landing Inn, 7904 Highway 1 in Moss Landing, Friday at 9pm. No cover. 633-9853.
