COMMENT POLICY

Monterey County Weekly encourages discussion and welcomes different points of view, and we aim to create a space for community discussion. We understand that some volatile issues arise and respect each person's right to an opinion, and the following guidelines are intended to advance a meaningful space for discussion. 

The following comment guidelines apply for all of our digital platforms, including social media pages and montereycountyweekly.com. Comments that violate the guidelines below will be removed, and repeat violators will be blocked from commenting. By posting comments on any of the Weekly’s various platforms, you agree to the following: 

  • Commenters must use their real names. If you wish to provide an anonymous tip, you can send us an email or visit our whistleblower portal at tipline.montereycountyweekly.com

  • Commenters may not post content that is abusive, threatening, obscene, hateful, harmful to minors, invasive to another’s privacy, vulgar, libelous, defamatory, unlawful, abusive or harassing. 

  • Commenters may not engage in personal ad hominem attacks; commenters may express dissent and disagreement with each other and with the Weekly

  • Commenters must represent themselves using their true identity. They may not impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation. 

  • Commenters may not post or transmit any content they do not have a right to under any law. 

  • Commenters may not upload, post, email or otherwise transmit any content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights of any party.

  • Commenters may not post unsolicited advertising or promotional materials. (If you wish to provide a story idea about a product or event, please visit tipline.montereycountyweekly.com.)

  • Commenters understand that all content posted on any of our platforms may be republished by the Weekly digitally and/or in print. It may be edited for space, style and clarity.
